Carrantuohill expedition

Joe Howell and family and friends have donated €6,400 to St. James’s Hospital. The donation represents funds raised in connection with an expedition to the top of Carrantuohill during the glorious days of last June. Members of the intrepid team of 16 included Joe himself, his niece Niamh Brophy, his nephew John Brophy, his sons Christopher and Joe Jr and Joe Jr’s fiancée, Caroline Gallagher.

The expedition was carried out in memory of Joe’s late father in law, John Brophy, who had been a patient at St. James’s.  Joe said: “John was a regular swimmer. He loved to go walking regularly with his wife Vera and he had wanted to climb Carrantuohill; we did this expedition and we fundraised to honour his memory.” Joe described the day as a ‘fantastic adventure that was enjoyed by all’ and is most grateful to all the members of his family, to all their friends and to his colleagues in An Post who so generously supported the initiative.
